Officials are the backbone of Colorado hockey—ensuring every game is safe, fair, and fun. CAHA values the critical role referees and linespersons play in shaping the experience for players, coaches, and families statewide.

Colorado Hockey Officiating Organizations
CAHOA, CIHRA, and SCIHRA represent the officiating associations—each serving different regions within the state. All three are recognized by CAHA as authorized officiating bodies.

USA Hockey has no age restrictions for officiating; however, in Colorado to be a Colorado Ice Hockey Referee Association (CIHRA ) Official you must be 13 years of age or older. Click on the USA Hockey Officiating Program Logo to learn the 5 steps involved in becoming an official:
- Register with USA Hockey
- Background Screening if over 18 yr. Old
- Online Safe Sport Training
- Attend a Seminar Class (In-person/Zoom)
- Pass the on-line officiating exam
